Terms and Conditions
MEASUREMENTS, FIT AND FINISH:
Work is undertaken based on measurements at first fitting.
During the fitting process, should measurements change by more than 1⁄2” causing further or repeated work to be required, a charge of half the cost for those works will be made where the work is unfinished, or the full cost if the work is completed.
Embellishment unpick and replacement will not be charged further, unless this has already been replaced before further work is requested.
Garments are fitted based on the request of the client. Finery & Detail are not responsible for choices in fit and decisions are made at the client's own risk.
Alterations are carried out based on the request of the client and feedback at fittings. Both loose and tight fits can lead to effects such as bulging, marks on the skin, restricted movement, distorted fabric and boning, damage to the garment when worn or failure of structural elements. We ask clients to check carefully at fittings and confirm at each stage whether they are happy with the look and fit of the dress before proceeding. Once a fit has been approved, Finery & Detail cannot be held responsible for later dissatisfaction with that choice.
The client expresses acknowledgment that altering or customising a garment is a deliberate modification, and not all work can be undone. Once fit has been approved at a fitting, the garment will be professionally finished, requiring the removal of excess fabric.
The method of finishing will be, as far as technically possible within the construction, the same as or similar to those used on the original garment Where this is not possible the decision on methods used remains with Finery & Detail unless specified by the client.
FITTING APPOINTMENTS:
Missed or cancelled appointments on the day will be charged at £40.
If a client arrives late to an appointment, the duration will be reduced. The appointment will not be extended to make up for the missed time.
If a client arrived more than 20 minutes late, Finery & Detail reserve the right to cancel and rearrange the fitting.
If a fitting needs to be rearranged, this is possible where at least 24 hours notice is given in writing.
Finery & Detail cannot guarantee specific days and times for fittings.
Where persons requiring alterations attend all of the same fittings as the bride, no further fitting charges will be made. Where one or more of the fittings is requested at a separate date or time, further fitting charges will apply.
ADDITIONAL REQUESTS AND RIGHT TO REFUSAL:
We reserve the right to refuse requested alterations to garments, amendments or additions to planned alterations, and changes to timings.
If agreed, additional work or changes to planned work after the first fitting will be costed separately and added to the balance.
Costing is based on information available at the first fitting. Changes made after the costing may require extra work and incur further charge.
SHOES AND UNDERWEAR:
Please bring shoes, underwear and foundations that you intend to wear with the garment to all fittings.
Should there be a change after the first fitting, this may affect the fit of the garment and length of hem. Once a hem has been cut, it is no longer possible to drop it to a longer length.
Additional work will be charged separately if required.
BUSTLE:
Bustles are inherently fragile and form a weak point on the garment. Whilst we reinforce bustles, we are not responsible for any damage to the garment or failure of the bustle in use.
STEAMING AND CLEANING:
Areas of the garment that are being worked upon will be pressed during the alterations process, however the garment will not be steamed before collection unless otherwise agreed.
Spot cleaning will be carried out where requested and identified by the client.

DEPOSIT AND PAYMENT:
A 50% non-refundable deposit is required at first fitting, with balance at collection.
Once the deposit has been paid, work will commence on the garment.
Work will not be started if the deposit is not paid within 1 week of the first fitting, and a request made to the client to collect the garment, as this does not allow enough time complete work between fittings.
Payment is by cash or bank transfer.
CANCELLATION:
Cancellation of services may be agreed where works have not commenced on the garment.

The garment will be returned to you, after fees have been paid, in its state at the time of cancellation and no further work will be completed, nor the garment returned to its original state.
If the client requires the garment to be completed upon cancellation of the event, the full balance will be due upon completion and timescales are to be agreed with the client.
If the client’s event is cancelled, it is their responsibility to notify Finery & Detail in a timely manner. The garment must be collected by the original wear date. A storage fee of £20 per week will be charged beyond this date.
